Health Benefits Of Organic Goji Berries

Goji berries is the recent health product for wolfberries, which have been grown and eaten in China for many many years. It has always been believed by Chinese herbalists to contain qualities that benefit the heart, prevent eye diseases, have neuroprotective qualities, boost the immune system and help prevent or fight cancer. They have also been said to have anti-aging properties.

Of course, where there is a health food item, it will be organic, or at least marketed as organic. I the case of organic goji berries, there has been no research done to find out if the berries actually are grown organically. Also, those labeled Himalayan or Tibetan goji berries are unlikely to be grown organically, as this method is not known in that region.

However, whether it is organic goji or just plain, the berry certainly can benefit the health of those who consume it regularly. This is because, as a superfruit, it contains an amazing assortment of nutrients that are essential and beneficial to our bodies. It contains:

many antioxidants, especially carotenoids (beta-kerotene, zeaxanthin)
11 essential and 22 trace minerals
6 essential vitamins
unsaturated and essential fatty acids
varios poly- and monosaccharides
and many others. No wonder it's a known as a superfruit!

Apart from the traditionally held health benefits, today, organic goji berries are sold with the claim that they strengthen the legs, improve sexual function and fertility, improve circulation and promote longevity. Unfortunately there has been very little verifiable research done to back up these claims. Still, with all the beneficial properties already known to exist in the nutrients that organic goji berries contain, there is no doubt that the berries will benefit you!

Goji berries are not sold fresh outside of where they are grown (China). They are exported dried, in concentrated form, or powder, but are most commonly seen as goji juice organic. This juice was originally sold in multi-level marketing type settings, but has since started to be sold in health food stores and is also marketed on the Internet. In order to get the recommended dosage of the product, only a little is needed each day. This means a 32 ounce bottle of the juice should last about eighteen days. Good thing, though, since such a bottle might cost as much as fifty dollars.

There is not question that organic goji berries deserve their title of exotic superfruit. Although the claims of the berry being grown organically, as well as some of the health claims made in the marketing of the fruit are as yet unconfirmed, it cannot be disputed that the fruit is a fantastic source of many nutrients that are extremely beneficial when included in our diet. For this reason, organic goji berries and goji juice organic will continue to become increasingly popular in health food circles.
